Girls' Generation (Sonyeo Shidae or 소녀시대 or SNSD) is a nine-member South Korean pop girl group formed by S.M. Entertainment in 2007. They are also referred to as SoShi or SNSD by their fans, both abbreviated forms of the group's Korean name. Girls' Generation is currently the top Korean pop group.
They gained attention at the beginning of their career with songs like "Into The New World", "Kissing You" and "Baby Baby". However, it was not until 2009, they gained immense popularity with the song "Gee", which holds the record for being the longest running No. 1 song on KBS Music Bank, having held the No. 1 chart ranking for nine consecutive weeks.The group solidified their place in the Korean music industry with follow-up singles like "Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)", "Run Devil Run" and "Oh!."
They performed "The Boys" on the late night talk show, Late Show with David Letterman, and on the daytime talk show, Live! with Kelly, at the start of 2012. "The Boys" also saw a change in image, instead of an innocent concept with the song, the group began to portray a more mature image.
The leader of the group is Kim Taeyeon. The other members are Jessica Jung, Sunny, Tiffany, Kim Hyoyeon, Kwon Yuri, Choi Sooyoung, Im Yoona and Seohyun.
